National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is an organization whose membership is based on scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Juniors who have had a minimum GPA of 3.0 for five semesters of high school and seniors who have had a minimum GPA of 3.0 for seven semesters are eligible for consideration.  Anyone who meets this requirement will be invited to an informational meeting held during advisory time on Wednesday February 7th, 2018 in Mrs. Pesterís classroom.  There they will be given some forms to complete to help the selection committee in determining the new members.  Along with these forms the students need to provide a teacher recommendation letter, a recommendation from someone outside of the school, and a personal letter stating why they want to be in NHS and what they would contribute to the organization.  All forms are due to Mrs. Pester by 4PM on Wednesday Feb 21st, 2018 if a student wishes to be considered for membership

Once the forms are turned in a private teacher committee will review the applications.  The student gets a numerical value (1-5) in the areas of leadership, service, character, scholarship, and their completed paper, from each committee member.    The studentís scores are then averaged.  The entire group of students scores are placed in order based on their score.  The committee then looks at just the numbers (there are no student names on this) and determines where a gap in the scores appears and determines who will be invited to join the National Honor Society.  This is an elite group and not everyone that applies will make it in.  We have done our best to make it as fair as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns about NHS or the process, feel free to contact Rebecca Pester @ or 605-543-5500, 605-446-3207.

This year the NHS banquet is on Tuesday April 3rd @ 6:30pm.
